I recall a conversation I had with two of my computer-programming students some time ago. While it was common to work together on programs, I noticed two male students who really worked well together. One was from India and the other from Pakistan. I always learned from my students so I asked them, “In your native countries would you be such good friends?” One said, “Probably not.” The other said, “No Way!” Then they both said in unison, “But this is America.” There was sincere joy in their voices. I’m glad they’re here.
America, I hope we can keep it.
If only that was a reality. Sounds like a send-up to diversity, you know, America’s “strength.”
