Just a continuation of my contention that those who came before us worked harder or suffered more. Our house that we tore down 24 years ago was the oldest one in Ingham Township. It had a shallow footing to speed its erection so as to beat winter for the settlers. Inside that was a deeper one around a small basement for food storage and protection from weather (people back then thought weather couldn’t be changed by humans! So must be dealt with). It was dug by hand. It also had an iron bar with a couple of heavy brackets across the door to keep indians out. Ha! You’d think all those miles of ocean would do that.
Significance?? Or, message?? Or, where we are headed?
